PMAC 2016 Side Event (SE 013): Introduction to Health Intervention and Technology Assessment: HITA 101
“Health Intervention and Technology Assessment (HITA) is recognized as a tool in support of universal health coverage (UHC) to inform policy decision. It becomes an increasingly important part of priority setting and decision-making process in resource-limited settings. In this meeting, all participants will be fulfilled with the principles of HITA and its application especially for UHC.”

Background:

To manage healthcare demand and available resources, and to provide the adequate health services to population, Health Intervention and Technology Assessment (HITA) is originated. HITA is defined as a multidisciplinary process to summarize information the medical, social, economic, organizational and ethical issues of a health intervention or health technology in a systematic, transparent, unbiased, robust manner. HITA becomes an increasingly important part of priority setting and decision-making process in resource-limited settings. It is particularly in the form of primary research and evidence synthesis. According to the 67th World Health Assembly, HITA is recognized as a tool in support of universal health coverage (UHC) to inform policy decision. Member states are encouraged to introduce HITA as well as share lessons learnt with regard to implement evidence-based health policy. Given the increasing role of HITA,      participants especially who coming from non-health and/or non-economic background including staff from the Ministry of Finance and development partners, understanding of HITA’s basic aspects are crucial. World-renowned experts in HITA will be invited to provide theoretical sessions of HITA and its application, followed by sharing countries’ experiences.

 Objective:

This meeting is aimed at the introductory course primarily for those without prior background in health and/or with limited experience of HITA and health economics.

 Expected output/outcome:

All participants who are beginner will be fulfilled with the principles of HITA and its application especially for UHC.

 Target participants and estimated number of participants:

50-100 participants including staff from academic institutions, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Finance and development partners
