Erica Thompson, PhD

Erica Thompson is an interdisciplinary academic who works on the appropriate use of mathematical modelling to support real-world decisions, from mathematical and statistical questions about methodologies of inference from models, to psycho-social questions about the formation of confidence and the role of expert judgement. Her application areas of interest include climate change, climate adaptation, ‘green finance’, economic and financial modelling, public health, insurance, disaster risk modelling/financing, machine learning and autonomous systems. In 2022, Dr. Thompson published the book ‘Escape from Model Land’.
