Project Summary

"UNITE for Thailand" is an initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of global health leaders, anchored by the Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program (HITAP). The proposal acknowledges the critical role of effective leadership in addressing global health challenges and emphasizes the need for proactive support for early career researchers, nurturing a culture of cross-cultural exchange, and fostering a commitment to on-the-job training and capacity building.

The proposal is underpinned by the recognition of the pressing need for competent global health leaders, particularly in the context of Thailand's commitment to becoming a knowledge-based society. It highlights the pivotal role of HITAP in advocating Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and evidence-informed policy formulation, emphasizing the importance of networking, mentorship, and leadership development. The proposal recognizes the evolving global landscape, emphasizing the need of identifying and nurturing individuals capable of championing global health causes, particularly in the wake of the challenges posed by events like the COVID-19 pandemic. It underscores the importance of leveraging HITAP's position in the Asia-Pacific region, highlighting the opportunity for the organization to foster stronger regional collaborations and advocate for shared health objectives. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need to invest in leadership development through networking, providing young professionals with a platform to showcase their work, establish global partnerships, and engage with working groups.

The initiative's methodology is centered on five key streams, including direct policy impact projects, technical training and building trainer capacity, collaboration networking, onsite mentorship, and fellowships. By focusing on these areas, the program aims to equip early career researchers with multifaceted competencies crucial for impactful leadership in the global health landscape, especially in HTA. This approach emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience, technical expertise, effective communication, collaborative practices, and exposure to diverse perspectives. It recognizes the role of mentorship and fellowships in broadening individual perspectives and fostering cross-learning, contributing to the overall growth and development of the organization and the broader global health community.
