Together with the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), HITAP has been engaged in assisting with building technical capacity for HTA and more broadly, evidence-informed decisions for health care in Laos since 2019. Towards this objective, HITAP hosted researchers from University of Health Sciences (UHS) and Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust Research Unit (LOWMRU) in Thailand for a three-week, economic evaluation training and internship program on proposal developmnet to study the introduction of a typhoid vaccine into the routine healthcare package in the country. HITAP and MORU also conducted a one-day introductory HTA workshop for the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) members. More recently, in 2020, HITAP provided support in drafting a funding proposal for the establishment of the Unit for Health Economics and Policy (UHEP) which will function as a national-level HTA and evidence-led health policy body.
