A need for priority setting!

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) can be unaffordable. For most countries, it is impossible to provide all health services to all people. Priorities must be set to make the best use of finite resources. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General reiterated this important message at the launch event of the third edition of ‘Disease Control Priorities’, DCP3 in London today (6 December 2017).

DCP3 is an impressive piece of work that identifies an essential packages list to help low- and middle- income countries on their path towards attaining UHC. This version of DCP3 has been extended to include cost-effectiveness analysis to assess value for money in achieving different health outcomes. This is crucial to making resources go further and in this way policymakers are more supported than ever before in their pursuit of UHC.
