Before the pandemic, many countries recognized the importance of regional collaboration in preparing for future pandemics, whether within ASEAN or the broader Asua Pacific region. In 2019, the SSHSPH discussed with the DFAT Australia for funding and support to this initiative, and the onset of the pandemic provided the impetus for it to move forward. The first roundtable in Indonesia, organised in Jakarta by UNPAD, focused on the economic ramifications of the pandemic, highlighting the need for future economic resilience measures. The second roundtable in Bangkok was to address the traditional aspects of pandemic response from health systems perspective, which is crucial for enduring resilience. The third roundtable in Singapore was arranged, focusing on leadership and communication. Together, this initiative aims to draw on concrete examples from across the region to learn from each other’s successes and shortcomings. By facilitation dialogue and collaboration at multiple levels, it can collectively strengthen the region’s capacity to respond effectively to future crises.
