(Petchburi, Thailand) 14-16 May 2012, the HTAsiaLink, the health technology assessment-HTA collaboration in Asia organized its first academic annual conference in Petchburi, Thailand. The Health Intervention and Technology Assessment (HITAP, Thailand) hosted the conference together with other HTAsiaLink members including the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency (NECA, Korea), HTA division Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE, Taiwan), the National Institute of Public Health (Japan), the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM, Malaysia), and China National Health Development Research Center (China).
This conference was not only aimed for fostering collaboration among member organizations, but also for strengthening individual and institutional capacity in HTA research and integration of HTA evidence into policy decisions. With approximately 80 participations from 9 countries including Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the UK, the conference had brought together various experiences and knowledge regarding the use of HTA in difference settings. In this conference, there were 42 abstracts submitted in total which were categorized 2 parallel sessions, economic evaluation (EE) and health system research (HSR). After the demonstration of each abstracts, comments and discussions from the HTA world experts, Dr.Andrew Briggs (University of Glasgow, UK), Dr.Peter Coyte (University of Toronto, Canada), Dr.Ruth Lopert (The George Washington University Medical Center, USA / PBAC, Australia) and Dr. Margaret Thorogood (the University of Warwick, UK) were made to improve research methodology, results and application to policy making level.
The side meeting on the progress of Asian Collaborative Research Project to Determine WTP/QALY was also held in the conference. This project is a cross-national study to examine a value of a QALY across countries in Asia (Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, and Japan). Currently, the project is in the process of implementing the questionnaire and data gathering.
