Reflection from the Infectious Disease Modelling (IDM) Conference 2024

I had a great opportunity to participate in the Infectious Disease Modelling (IDM) Conference 2024 in Bangkok, where I presented my research and built networks with experts in the field. This experience was made possible thanks to the support from the UNITE initiative under the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research, and Innovation (PMU-B).
There were also pre-conference sessions focused on various topics. One I would particularly like to highlight is the session on Building Regional Capacity in Infectious Disease Modelling: Shared Insights, Challenges, and Opportunities. As the title suggests, this session was dedicated to building an understanding of regional capacity in infectious disease modelling, with discussions addressing both the challenges and opportunities in this field. Through collaborative discussions, participants shared insights, identified common hurdles, and explored practical solutions to advance modelling capabilities and applications. The session featured presentations, interactive group discussions, and case studies designed to provide a deeper understanding of infectious disease modelling and its applications across diverse regional contexts.
Participating in this session was a rewarding experience. Engaging with a diverse group of professionals provided a rich environment to exchange ideas and learn from the unique challenges others face. I appreciated the open, collaborative atmosphere, which encouraged sharing both successes and setbacks, creating a practical and forward-looking learning experience.
The insights I gained have already prompted me to consider new strategies to enhance modelling practices within my work. In particular, I aim to strengthen partnerships with regional counterparts to facilitate continuous knowledge exchange and resource sharing.
Last but not least, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the session and conference organisers, including all who provided support throughout this experience. The collaborative nature of this event enabled meaningful exchanges on shared challenges and opportunities, creating a productive and insightful learning environment not only for me but for all other participants. Thank you once again for making this session impactful and forward-looking. I look forward to continued collaboration in advancing regional capacities in infectious disease modelling.
