Selected candidates for HITAP International Internship 2017

We are pleased to announce the names of candidates selected for the HITAP International Internship program for 2017-2019. This program is currently funded by Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and the International Decision Support Initiative (iDSI).

The candidates were selected through an open and competitive process. Following a call for internships, HITAP received fourteen applications from people coming from ten countries in the Asia Pacific and Africa regions. We shortlisted ten candidates based on the strength of their applications. These candidates were invited to participate in a panel interview on October 27, 2017, chaired by Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert, Vice Chair of IHPP and HITAP Foundations, and co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Sompong Klaynongsruang, Director of TRF Academic. The panel comprised representatives from HITAP. The panel carefully reviewed all the candidates’ responses and based on the overall scores, the following candidates were selected (names are in alphabetic order):

  • Diana Beatriz Bayani, The Philippines
  • Ery Setiawan, Indonesia
  • Kua Wei Sun, Malaysia
  • Levina Chandra Khoe, Indonesia
  • Masedikwe Mokwape Evelyn Thsehla, South Africa

These successful candidates are researchers, medical staff, and government officials from health ministries. They will bring their policy-relevant topics to conduct health technology assessment (HTA) studies with technical support from HITAP. These topics include, for example, economic evaluation of diabetes screening strategies for pregnant women, economic evaluation of HPV vaccination programme, cost-utility and budget impact analysis of novel drugs as first-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancer among others. There will be a possibility that head of the relevant government office in the home country of each candidate will be invited to visit HITAP towards the end of the internship program to enhance the impact that each candidate can make upon returning to his or her home country. The selected candidates are expected to start their internship mid-January 2018 onwards at HITAP in Thailand.

The Internship program aims to build the capacity of researchers working with public health authorities, preferably from low and middle-income countries (LMICs), in HTA. This internship program will complement other capacity building activities undertaken by HITAP and will strengthen Thailand’s leadership in the global health arena especially on using HTA to support universal health coverage. HITAP will also benefit by hosting staff from different countries and establishing networks with partner organizations. Through this internship program, candidates will be well equipped to start up or support an existing HTA program in their countries.

Congratulations to the selected candidates and we look forward to welcoming you at HITAP!
